Beiyangping Site

The Beiyangping Site is a National Key Cultural Relics Protection Unit.

The Beiyangping Site is located 500 meters west of Beiyangping Village, Yangping Town, Lingbao City, Henan Province, and is a Neolithic-age site.

The site stretches nearly 5 kilometers from north to south and is 300–500 meters wide from east to west, earning it the nickname “Ten-Li Long Street.” With an excavation area of 320 square meters, 27 ash pits were discovered, including 24 from the Yangshao period around 5000 years ago, 3 from the Western Zhou period. Five ancient tombs were also excavated—two from the Yangshao period and three from the Warring States period. Additionally, three Yangshao-period houses were found, along with hundreds of thousands of pottery shards, stone tools, and bone artifacts, including flat-bottomed red pottery basins, narrow-necked pointed-bottom bottles, and sand-tempered gray pottery jars, belonging to both the Yangshao and Longshan cultures.

The Beiyangping Site features thick stratigraphic deposits and rich cultural content, predominantly of the Miaodigou type, reflecting the central role of the Yangshao culture in its middle to late phases. It is an important area for exploring the origins of Chinese civilization.
