Nanyang Tianfei Temple

Nanyang Tianfei Temple is a cultural relic protection unit of Henan Province.

Nanyang Tianfei Temple is located within the residential compound of the Small Railway Family Quarters on Xinjie South Street, less than a hundred meters south of the Sanhuang Temple. It is an important ancient architectural structure in our city, possessing significant historical and scientific value. According to existing historical records and inscriptions, Nanyang Tianfei Temple was first built in the 36th year of the Kangxi reign (1697), with two major renovations taking place in the 4th year of the Jiaqing reign (1799) and the 10th year of the Guangxu reign (1899). The temple originally covered a large area, featuring a Memorial Archway Theater, left and right side halls, the Heavenly Queen Palace, and the Goddess Temple. It served as a central hub for shipping professionals, merchants, and boatmen throughout history. Today, seven structures remain, including three rooms of the Goddess Temple, three rooms each of the Heavenly Queen Palace and its canopy, an east corridor room, three rooms of the theater, and three side rooms to the east and west of the theater — the east side room’s lintel is inscribed with “River Clear.” The layout has been largely preserved, with ornate beams and painted rafters, exuding a solemn and majestic atmosphere, making it of great preservation value.
