Tanghe Confucius Temple

The Tanghe Confucius Temple is a cultural relic protection unit of Henan Province.

The Tanghe Confucius Temple is located at the former site of the county’s imperial college (now the campus of No. 4 High School). Its exact founding date is unknown. It was renovated in the third year of the Hongwu era and the first years of the Yongle and Zhengtong eras during the Ming Dynasty, as well as several times during the Qing Dynasty. The surviving structures include the main hall and the Scholar’s Bridge. The Dacheng Hall features a single-eave hip-and-gable roof, with a depth of three bays and a width of seven bays, and a span of ten rafter frames. Below each column inside the hall lies a 0.5-meter-high white marble pedestal. The Scholar’s Bridge, built during the Ming Dynasty and situated 80 meters along the central axis in front of the hall, has a slab-paved deck and piers. It is a four-arch bridge that spans a crescent-shaped Pan Pond. The bridge stretches 9.25 meters from north to south. The Pan Pond itself is 11 meters long north to south and 7 meters wide east to west, constructed with bricks.

It is just over 40 kilometers from Nanyang Airport and is traversed by the Nanjing–Xi’an Railway, Xinyang–Nanyang Expressway, National Highway 312, Provincial Highway S249, and Provincial Highway S335. Backed by the Tanghe River and facing the Sanjia River to the south, it is home to the national cultural relics Sizhou Pagoda and Wenfeng Pagoda.
