Huyang Site

The Huyang Site is located in Huyang Town, Tanghe County. Covering an area of 10,500 square meters, the cultural layer is 1 to 3 meters thick. The surface is scattered with a large number of stone tools, pottery shards, and fired earth, containing cultural deposits from several different periods ranging from the Qujialing and Longshan cultures to the Western Zhou and Han dynasties. It is a typical primitive village site showcasing the fusion of northern and southern cultures. Nearby there is also the Han Dynasty Huyang Site and the tomb of Liu Xiu’s elder sister, Princess Huyang Chang. It was listed as a Henan Provincial Cultural Relics Protection Unit in 1986.

Huyang Town: Huyang Town is located at the southernmost tip of Tanghe County, Henan Province, adjacent to Zaoyang City in Hubei Province. It serves as the southern gateway of Henan Province. The town covers an area of 150 square kilometers, with 92,000 mu of arable land. It governs 25 village (residential) committees, 287 villager groups, 14,000 households, and 58,000 people, including 3,200 Hui people. The terrain is higher in the east and lower in the west. The eastern part consists of shallow mountainous areas spanning 60 square kilometers, while the western part is a buffer plain. There are five rivers within the territory (Liaoyang River, Liaoyin River, Jiangshi River, Cao River, and Zhang River), which flow continuously from east to west into the Tanghe River and eventually into the Yangtze River.
