Sanyizhai Site

The Sanyizhai Site is a protected cultural heritage site of Henan Province.

The Sanyizhai Site is located in Sanyizhai Village, Laoyemiao Township, Huaxian County, within the ancient course area of the middle and lower reaches of the Yellow River. The site sits on two high platforms about 50 meters apart from north to south. From July to November this year, the Henan Provincial Institute of Cultural Relics and Archaeology and the Huaxian County Cultural Relics Management Office carried out a three-month archaeological excavation, covering an area of 200 square meters. The cultural deposits in this area reach a depth of 12 meters, encompassing remains from the Longshan, Pre-Shang, Shang, Western Zhou, Eastern Zhou, Han, and Song dynasties. According to reports, 41 tombs dating from the Warring States period to the Western Han Dynasty were discovered in the upper layers of the site. Among them, three Western Han tombs are vertical pit graves, yielding valuable artifacts such as painted pottery figurines, painted pottery horses, painted pottery pots, tripods, and gui vessels.
