The Historical Architectural Complex of Daokou Town is a cultural relics protection unit of Henan Province.

The Historical Architectural Complex of Daokou Town is located in Daokou Town, Huaxian County. Dating back to the Qing Dynasty, on January 22, 2016, it was announced by the People's Government of Henan Province as part of the Seventh Batch of Provincial Cultural Relics Protection Units in Henan.

As an important segment of the Yongji Canal of the Sui-Tang Grand Canal, the Huaxian section of the Grand Canal is the mother river of the ancient town of Daokou, which nurtured the town’s former prosperity and fostered a rich canal culture. Walking along the 1,800-meter-long Cross Street, signs labeled “First Batch of Historical Buildings in Daokou Town” and “First Batch of Historical Shops in Daokou Town” can be seen everywhere. Adorned with strings of red lanterns, the ancient town of Daokou takes on an even more classic and timeless charm. With over 140 shops covering various aspects including folk art, local customs, regional cuisine, antiques, odd rocks, music, poetry, calligraphy, and painting, these establishments collectively showcase the thriving diversity of businesses in the ancient town. Visitors can fully immerse themselves in the vibrant atmosphere while appreciating the profound history and culture of this millennia-old town.

Traditional performances such as storytelling, tea ceremonies, and cockfighting add a rich cultural layer to the ancient town of Daokou.

It is understood that in 2015, our county initiated the restoration project of historical buildings along the northern section of Shunnan Street, Shuihutong, Dajijie, as well as shops and residences. At the same time, a series of projects including pipeline renovation and upgrading, traditional pavement bricklaying, and street scenery installations were successfully carried out. The large “cross”-shaped Ming-Qing historical district has gradually taken shape. Earlier this year, the historical and cultural commercial street opened on schedule. The comprehensively renovated canal now boasts clear water and green banks, presenting a thought-provoking scenic view against the backdrop of the ancient town of Daokou. The restored ancient docks, city walls, and historical districts exhibit unique charm. Once again bustling with visitors, the area has regained vitality following its successful inscription on the heritage list.
