Wuhuacao Meadow is located 7.5 kilometers south of the county town, on the west side of Chibao Highway, situated between Shitoucheng Reservoir and Qingnian Reservoir in the heart of the Jinlianchuan Grassland. It lies along the western side of Chibao Highway, covering a total area of about 100,000 mu, stretching over 10 kilometers from north to south. It is the most pristine wetland meadow. The average vegetation coverage in Wuhuacao Meadow is over 90%, with more than 300 species of wild plants, over 30 species of wildlife, and more than 170 types of flowers. The average height of the pasture grass ranges from 0.6 to 0.8 meters. Wuhuacao Meadow is the best-preserved, highest-vegetation-coverage, and most scenic natural meadow in Hebei Province to date.

Wuhuacao Meadow gets its name from the five colors of flowers that bloom abundantly in spring, summer, and autumn. From spring to autumn, the floral colors change every half month, with each change featuring the simultaneous blooming of five or more colors of wildflowers—creating a vibrant splash of color. It’s truly a case of “year after year the flowers may look the same, but month after month, day after day, they are never the same.” In late spring to early summer, during May and June, a pink-flowered plant called Pseudosedum liebmannianum blooms across the meadow. From a distance, the entire meadow takes on a hazy pink hue, and being there fills you with an incredibly romantic warmth. In midsummer, during June and July, the meadow is graced by the blooms of globe flowers and other yellow flowers, as well as thyme. From afar, the meadow glows with a noble, elegant gold, and being immersed in it gives you a sense of majestic grandeur. By late autumn, in August and September, dark purple Veronica flowers and light purple mint bloom. Viewed from a distance, the meadow appears in a gentle, refined shade of dark purple, and being there evokes a tender and heartfelt softness. Before the purple Veronica flowers fade, Polygonatum odoratum begins to sprout long spikes of milky-white flowers, and the undulating sea of white in the breeze feels like carrying you into a vast ocean. Then, in late autumn, from September to October, the purplish-red fruits of Sanguisorba cover the sea of milky white. From afar, it looks like a dazzling, exuberant purple-red, and being there gives you a feeling of bountiful harvest and warm enthusiasm.

The meadow is home to countless rare and exotic flowers and plants, among which the golden lotus flower is especially famous. This flower can be used both medicinally and as a premium-quality tea, offering cooling, phlegm-relieving, cough-soothing, throat-moistening, and lung-clearing benefits. There are also daylilies, commonly known as golden needles, which bloom so profusely in season that they cover the entire meadow—making them a delicious floral delicacy on the dining table. The meadow also abounds in wild vegetables suitable for consumption, such as wild leeks, leek flowers, and wild mountain onions, as well as many high-quality medicinal herbs like Gentiana macrophylla, Bupleurum, Ophiopogon japonicus, Astragalus, and Adenophora. Every summer, large numbers of migratory birds flock here to nest, lay eggs, and breed. During this time, a riot of blooming flowers and chirping birds fill the meadow with vitality and energy.

The Hulu River runs through the meadow from north to south, winding and twisting like a jade belt encircling and inlaying the Wuhuacao Meadow. In the peak of summer, the Hulu River basin boasts lush water plants, wildflowers everywhere, birdsong, floral fragrance, and crystal-clear, azure-blue water. It is a paradise for waterfowl, including wild ducks, herons, and egrets, all of which add beauty and a touch of mystery and wonder to the meadow’s scenery.
