The Lightning River Reservoir Water Conservancy Scenic Area is a national water conservancy scenic area.
The Lightning River Reservoir Water Conservancy Scenic Area is located 8 km from Guyuan County, 160 km from Zhangjiakou, and 286 km from Beijing. It is built around the Lightning River Reservoir in Guyuan County, Hebei Province.
The scenic area is a reservoir-type water conservancy park, covering an area of 16,784 mu. It boasts vast water landscapes, ecological wetlands, beautiful mountains, and over 20,000 mu of grassland, with well-preserved water quality. The air is fresh, making it a great summer retreat. The surrounding area has a rich cultural heritage, including well-preserved Yuan Dynasty tombs, ruins of imperial palaces from the Wei, Liao, and Yuan dynasties, and related legends. Emperor Kangxi once praised it as “eight hundred li of Golden Lotus Plain, where a myriad flowers vie in beauty.” It has served as a filming location for numerous movies and TV dramas. There are several tourist reception facilities such as Guyuan Saibei Manor and Gushui Fuyuan, offering certain capabilities for accommodation, dining, and entertainment. The area is rich in the charm of the grasslands beyond the Great Wall and holds significant potential for tourism development.
