Stone City Ruins

The Stone City Ruins are a cultural heritage site protected by Hebei Province.

The Stone City Ruins are located south of Stone City Village, Xiaohezi Township, Guyuan County, and date back to the Yuan and Ming dynasties. The site is square-shaped, with each side measuring 250 meters, covering an area of over 60,000 square meters. The walls were built with stone blocks and now stand 1–3 meters high at their highest remaining points. There are gates to the north and south, each 20 meters wide. The interior has been converted into farmland, with no standing structures remaining—only ruins can be seen. Among the collected relics are ceramic fragments imitating those from the Jun, Ru, and Ding kilns, as well as pottery pieces from the Yuan Dynasty.

The Stone City Ruins served as an important post station during the Yuan Dynasty’s “dual-capital tours.” Literati of the time left behind numerous poems and writings related to the site, which objectively reflect the living and cultural environment of the period. The ruins are relatively well-preserved and hold significant archaeological research value. Strengthening their protection and utilization is of great importance and profound historical significance for promoting the development of cultural tourism resources related to the Liao, Jin, and Yuan dynasties in Guyuan, as well as for studying the establishment and role of Yuan Dynasty post stations.

In October 2008, it was designated as a provincial-level cultural heritage site by the People's Government of Hebei Province.
