Tianqiao Waterfall Group

Located over 30 kilometers southwest of Fuping County on the eastern side of Baicaotuo, there are nine major waterfalls and a naturally formed bridge. Experts have identified this as the largest waterfall group in northern China and the biggest natural bridge made of metamorphic rock in the country. The waterfall group is concentrated in a valley connected to Baicaotuo, with the highest Yaotai Waterfall having a drop of 112.5 meters. The natural bridge was formed by the erosive power and collapse of cascading water along fractures in the valley, measuring 27 meters in length, 13 meters in width, and 13 meters in height. Together with the Yaotai Shan Galaxy Waterfall — the most voluminous and highest-drop waterfall in the area — it forms a remarkable natural geological wonder. During the peak water season, the torrents plunge down like heavenly steeds galloping across the sky, creating a breathtaking spectacle; in the dry season, the clear streams murmur softly, producing a crisp, melodic harmony akin to a light orchestral piece. In winter, the water freezes into countless ice pillars of various sizes and shapes, resembling exquisitely carved jade sculptures shaped by nature’s artistry. Baicaotuo stands at an elevation of 2,144.5 meters, featuring lofty peaks, lush green meadows, and stunning scenery. The scenic area here spans over 100,000 acres, all in a wild, untouched state, often referred to as a place of “a hundred plants, a hundred flowers, and a hundred kinds of medicinal herbs.” Legend has it that the well-known story of "The Lotus Lantern" took place in Liaodaobei Village, nestled on the western mountainside of Baicaotuo.
