The Rose Dome Scenic Area is located in Xiazhuang Township, Fuping County, 50 kilometers from the county seat and just 30 kilometers from the **renowned Mount Wutai. It neighbors the Zhujia Ying Tianqiao Waterfall Scenic Area, Lingshou Wuyuezhai Scenic Area, and Pingshan Tuoliang Scenic Area, and is named for the wild roses that blanket the mountains in spring. The main peak stands at an elevation of 2,281 meters, and the scenic area boasts over 80,000 acres of vegetation, mostly pristine forests and secondary growth, home to more than 700 species of flora and fauna. The 500-plus-acre alpine meadow atop the dome is as flat as a plain, bursting with blooming flowers, earning it the reputation of “a rooster’s crow heard across four counties, the fragrance of blossoms scenting two provinces.”

Covering an area of over 20 square kilometers, the scenic area is famed for its sea of flowers, peculiar peaks, cascading waterfalls, deep forests, and cool climate.

The Rose Dome is extremely rich in natural resources. The area features undulating mountain ranges, crisscrossing valleys, crystal-clear waters, lush green hills, and picturesque scenery.

1. Peculiar Peaks: The scenic area is characterized by steep, rugged peaks, sheer cliffs, and an abundance of uniquely shaped rocks. There are over 90 peaks exceeding 1,000 meters in height, including Youlong Mountain, Luohan Mountain, Bijia Mountain, and Niushe Mountain, each with its own distinct form. The main peak, Rose Dome, stands at 2,281 meters above sea level and is one of the five highest peaks in Hebei, also known as the “Number One Dome of Taihang” and the “Number One Peak of Yan Zhao.” From its summit, visitors can marvel at the breathtaking “Eight Sceneries Viewed from One Dome”: the Golden Frog Raising Its Head, the Sunrise at Dawn, the view eastward to the Wangkuai and Gangnan Reservoirs, southward to the Wuyue and Tiangui Scenic Areas, westward to the Five Peaks of Mount Wutai, and northward to Baicao Dome. After the rain clears, the sky turns a brilliant blue, and the sea of clouds among the mountains is vast and magnificent, with each peak resembling an island in the ocean—an awe-inspiring sight. The oddly shaped rocks in the mountains resemble pillars, towers, birds, and beasts. The Seven-Level Pagoda, the Divine Turtle Emerging from the Sea, and the Stone Snake are all strikingly lifelike. Especially remarkable is the rock formation at the highest point of the dome: it looks like a yellow fish gazing into the misty sea when viewed from the east, and like a golden turtle lying atop the peak when seen from the west.

2. Cascading Waterfalls: The scenic area boasts well-preserved forest vegetation, abundant rainfall, and significant elevation drops, resulting in the sound of babbling springs, crisscrossing streams, and waterfalls at every turn—roughly a waterfall every three steps and a pool every five. Dozens of clear springs, such as the Tree-Clad Spring and the Ice Spring, are like strings of pearls, crystal-clear, cool, and sweet. Over ten waterfalls, including the Milky Way Waterfall, the Horse Tail Waterfall, and the Dragon Tongue Waterfall, splash and shimmer in a myriad of forms. More than ten deep pools, such as the Green Stone Pool, the Three-Color Pool, and the Jade Pool, vary in shape—some round, some square, some deep, some shallow—each uniquely crafted as if by nature itself.

3. Sea of Flowers: The aerial garden atop the dome is a marvelous masterpiece of nature. At an altitude of 2,000 meters, the flat-topped summit is covered in lush green grass, nestled between the blue sky, white clouds, pine forests, and blue waves. With flowers blooming everywhere, the 5,000-acre meadow resembles an ocean of blossoms, featuring over a hundred varieties of wildflowers such as wild roses, globeflowers, rouge flowers, lilies, purple chrysanthemums, and lantern flowers. These flowers, in red, yellow, white, purple, and blue, bloom in succession, dazzling like clouds. Legend has it that the Flower Goddess once wandered the human world and, captivated by the picturesque beauty of Rose Dome, lingered too long. When the Thunder God came to fetch her, she fled in panic, accidentally tilting her flower basket and scattering a cascade of colorful blooms across the dome. Since then, the dome has been covered in blooming flowers. The flowering season lasts for half a year, peaking in June and July.

4. Dense Forests: The scenic area is densely covered with pristine forests, secondary forests, and planted forests, with a forest coverage rate as high as 65%. The area is rich in biodiversity, with 102 plant families, 686 species, and over 100 animal species. It also features a rare vertical distribution of vegetation in North China, transitioning from alpine meadows at the summit to larch forests, birch forests, mixed coniferous and broadleaf forests, and deciduous broadleaf forests. Particularly noteworthy are the thousands of acres of the rare red birch trees, which are extremely precious. The area is also home to many ancient trees, including over 100 chestnut trees over 400 years old and a nearly thousand-year-old upside-down poplar tree growing on another tree.

5. Cool Climate

The scenic area features numerous high-altitude peaks, dense forests, and a cool, pleasant climate. Even in the height of summer, the weather is like autumn, with an average summer temperature of 18.9°C, making it a true cool haven.

1. Prominent Location Advantage. To the north, the scenic area neighbors the developed Zhujia Ying Tianqiao Waterfall Scenic Area and Liaodao Bei Scenic Area, while to the south, it connects closely with the Wuyuezhai and Tuoliang Scenic Areas. The discovery and development of this scenic area link these nearby attractions into a cohesive whole, greatly enhancing their overall value.

2. Significantly Improved Transportation. The expansion and opening of National Highway 207, along with the completion of the asphalt road from Xiazhuang Township Government to Yan Yao Gou Ridge, have made access to the Rose Dome Scenic Area much more convenient and faster.

3. The scenic area spans an elevation from 450 to 2,281 meters, with a total drop of over 1,800 meters. It is densely packed with peculiar peaks and rocks, as well as clusters of waterfalls and deep pools. The combination of unique mountains and cascading waterfalls makes it the best natural ensemble in Fuping.

4. Dense Forest Vegetation. The scenic area contains approximately 55,000 acres of pristine forests, secondary forests, and planted forests, with a forest coverage rate as high as 65% and ancient trees scattered throughout. Such a high coverage rate and vast area are rare even within Hebei Province, let alone Baoding.

5. Aerial Garden. The alpine meadow atop Rose Dome spans 5,000 acres and showcases a rotation of over a hundred varieties of wildflowers, including roses, globeflowers, rouge flowers, lilies, and lantern flowers, changing with the seasons. In terms of the variety, quantity, coverage area, and flat terrain of the flowers, it far surpasses the Aerial Grassland in Laiyuan and Beijing’s Kangxi Grassland, making it truly unique in Hebei Province. In terms of floral variety and quantity, it also exceeds the Changbai Mountain Grassland.
