Fenghuangtai Village, Yixian County

Fenghuangtai Village, Yixian County is located adjacent to the Eastern Qing Tombs. Historically, it was a village tasked with guarding imperial mausoleums—specifically those of Empress Xiaoshengxian, the mother of Emperor Qianlong—and is known as the “No. 1 Manchu Culture Village south of Beijing.” The residences in the village largely maintain Qing Dynasty architectural styles, with some courtyards even adorned with palace lanterns. An elderly resident said that most villagers still preserve the old traditions—each family builds their house to the same height, so when viewed from the mountain, the rooftops of the village houses form a straight line. The village still retains ancient buildings from the Qing Dynasty such as barracks, barrack gates, and temples. Each street and alleyway is named after the original institutions and maintains the original design, laid out in neat rows and columns, forming a tic-tac-toe (三字) pattern.
