Yuanzhuang Site

The Yuanzhuang Site is a cultural relic protection unit of Shandong Province.

The Yuanzhuang Site is located in Yuanzhuang Village, Jinqiu Subdistrict, Boxing County, and belongs to the Yueshi, Shang-Zhou, and Han Dynasty cultures. The site covers an area of 250,000 square meters, measuring 500 meters in both the east-west and north-south directions, with a cultural deposit thickness of 2 meters. Artifacts unearthed include gray pottery zun-shaped vessels from the Xia Dynasty, black pottery tripods with sand inclusions, and crescent-shaped two-hole stone knives, as well as Shang-Zhou period red pottery li tripods with cord patterns, black pottery li tripods with plain surfaces, gray pottery gui containers with triangular patterns, large-bodied dou vessels, and remnants such as white pottery jars, basins, cosmetic boxes, and ear cups from the Han Dynasty. During the excavation of the Yubei River in the 1950s, Shang Dynasty bronze ding tripods and jue drinking vessels were discovered and are now housed in the Zouping County Cultural Relics Management Office. On December 7, 2006, the People’s Government of Shandong Province announced it as a provincial-level key cultural relics protection unit. The protected area extends 20 meters outward in all directions as a construction control zone.

Yuanzhuang Village: Located 5 kilometers south of Boxing County, Yuanzhuang Village in Jinqiu Subdistrict lies east of the Zhangdong Railway, borders Huantai County to the west, and is traversed by the Boxian Highway. The village currently has 703 households, a population of 2,428, and 1,759 mu of arable land. Agriculture mainly focuses on grain cultivation, while the village's leading industries are construction and straw-plaiting handicrafts, supplemented by transportation, poultry farming, and individual businesses.
