Huayuan Town, Leling City

Huayuan Town is located in the southeastern part of Leling City, about 25 kilometers from the city center. It borders Yangxin County to the east and Shanghe County to the south, covering an area of 88.89 square kilometers. In June 2000, it was formed through the merger of the former Liuwuguan Township and Huayuan Township. The town enjoys a superior location and convenient transportation.

Origin of the Name Huayuan Town: At the end of the Yuan Dynasty, an official’s family in Zhaofang Village built a garden. During the Yongle era of the Ming Dynasty (1403–1424), families with the surnames Zhang, Wang, Fang, and Du settled here. The garden contained a type of golden bell flower, so it was called Golden Garden, later shortened to Garden (Huayuan).

Within Huayuan Town lies the site of the “Wei King City,” built in 280 BC. To promote the town’s long and rich history and culture, the Huayuan Town Charity Association and the Huayuan Town Economic Chamber of Commerce began reconstructing the Bixia Yuanjun Ancestral Residence at the former site of Bixia Temple in Wangmiao Village from March 2006 to December 2008. Covering an area of over 100 acres with a construction area of 6,000 square meters, the residence includes two main halls — Bixia Temple and Wangmu Hall — as well as six auxiliary halls: Wenchang Hall, God of Wealth Hall, Medicine King Hall, and Guanyin Hall. There are also two wing rooms, along with classical structures such as a Ming-style bridge, Sun and Moon Pond, Fortune-Turning Pavilion, Welcome Plaza, and stone archway, showcasing the town’s profound historical and cultural heritage.
