The Throat of the Yellow River

Located at the sharp bend of the Yellow River (commonly known as "Nantan") to the south of the old Qihe County seat (now within Zhua Town), this section was a dangerous area that required focused defense during Yellow River flood prevention efforts, marked with a "Nantan Hazardous Works" sign. The Yellow River features many bends, narrow channels, and a winding course. At "Nantan," the distance between the two riverbanks is only 465 meters, hence the name "Throat of the Yellow River." In the late Qing Dynasty, the renowned satirical novelist Liu E, after witnessing the ice jam peak here, wrote the beautiful chapter “Viewing the Ice Jam at Nantan” in his novel *The Travels of Lao Can*. It is now an excellent spot to view the Mother River.
