Qihex Wu Village Site

The Qihex Wu Village Site is a cultural heritage site protected at the provincial level in Shandong Province.

The Wu Village Site is located 500 meters north of Wu Village in Renliji Town, stretching 76 meters from north to south and 47 meters from east to west, covering an area of approximately 4,000 square meters. In the 1970s, villagers digging a drainage ditch divided the site into two parts. The southern part (south of the ditch) is a 2.5-meter-high platform planted with poplar trees and crops. The northern part (north of the ditch) has its western section leveled into farmland, while the eastern section is a 0.6-meter-high platform used as farmland with young poplar trees planted on it. During the survey, eggshell pottery fragments, pottery shards with string patterns, rope patterns, and grid patterns, as well as gray pottery li tripod fragments and gray pottery ding tripod fragments were found on the site. There were also blue-and-white porcelain fragments and fish-patterned bowl base pieces, along with a large number of scattered clam shells. A “Sacred Song Yuanbao” coin was also discovered. Based on the unearthed cultural relics, the site dates back to the Neolithic Age and spans the Shang, Zhou, Han, Song, Ming, and Qing dynasties. In October 2013, it was designated as part of the fourth batch of provincial-level cultural heritage protection units by the People’s Government of Shandong Province.

Renliji Town: The name “Renli” comes from The Analects of Confucius, Chapter “Li Ren”: “It is good to live in a place where benevolence prevails.” “Li” refers to a place where people live, and to live in a place where benevolence abides is considered good. Later, villages with simple and virtuous customs came to be called “Renli.” Renli is rich in resources and its people are warm and hospitable. In the late Qing Dynasty, trade flourished and merchants gathered here, hence the name Renliji (Renli Market).
