The Han Tombs of Dafengying

The Han Tombs of Dafengying are a cultural relic protection unit of Hebei Province.

According to legend, the Han Tombs of Dafengying are the burial site of Li Zuoche from the Han Dynasty. They are located one kilometer northwest of Dafengying Village, Shen County, Hengshui City, Hebei Province. The tomb mound was originally about 10 meters high, but now the remaining earthen mound is approximately 1.5 meters high, with a length and width of 30 meters each, covering an area of 900 square meters. About 150 meters south of the tomb mound, five earthen mounds are distributed in a semi-circular pattern; each mound is spaced 80 meters apart, measuring 150 meters in length, 50 meters in width, and about 5 meters in height, all of an oval shape.

According to the “Cihai” (Sea of Words) encyclopedia: Li Zuoche was a strategist during the Qin and Han periods. Initially serving in Zhao, he was granted the title of Lord of Guangwu, and later followed Han Xin, using his strategies to capture the territory of Yan. Legend has it that Li Zuoche was a native of Raoyang, and when his coffin was being transported from south to north after his death, the iron chains binding it broke as it passed through Dafengying Village in Shen County. It was then stopped at this location, where a sudden strong wind caused earth to cover the coffin. In previous years, some members of the Li family from Raoyang County still came here to pay their respects. On July 15, 1993, the People’s Government of Hebei Province designated it as a provincial-level key cultural relic protection unit.
