Mr. Zhang Yanqing Art Gallery

Mr. Zhang Yanqing, formerly known as Zhang Huan, with the courtesy name Jianjin and the pseudonym Master of Wuyanzhai Studio. He was born in December 1918 in Jinggu Village, Daxinzhuang Office, Linqing City. He graduated from the Fine Arts Department of Fu Jen Catholic University in Beiping in 1943, and then from the Chinese Painting major of the Art Department at Central University in Chongqing in 1946. He studied under renowned masters including Zang Kejia, Chen Shaomei, Fu Xuezhai, Wang Shensheng, Qi Gong, Xu Beihong, Huang Junbi, Fu Baoshi, and Xie Zhiliu. Mr. Zhang Yanqing is currently a professor at the Shandong College of Arts. He is a renowned Chinese painter and art educator in China, as well as a highly respected revolutionary figure.

With deep love for his motherland and a keen sense of the times, Mr. Zhang Yanqing drew inspiration from nature while cultivating inner vision, blending tradition with innovation, and harmonizing artistic excellence with personal integrity. Throughout his life, he created a vast number of paintings that were exhibited and published in various domestic and international exhibitions, collections, and publications, exerting widespread influence. Through long-term artistic practice, he pioneered a painting path that coexisted and resonated with nature and society, while also forging new styles. His artworks developed a distinctive artistic style, standing prominently within the landscape of Chinese painting.

Mr. Zhang Yanqing, deeply attached to his hometown and grateful for its nurturing, actively reconnected with his roots in the autumn of 2005, expressing his willingness to donate his lifetime’s masterpieces and years of cherished artworks to his hometown free of charge. The Linqing Municipal Party Committee and Municipal Government decided to establish the Mr. Zhang Yanqing Art Gallery to permanently preserve and collect his artistic works.

The gallery was completed in October 2006. With its unique and elegant architectural style, the building covers a total floor area of over 2,000 square meters, perfectly integrating modern design concepts with a rich artistic atmosphere. The gallery is divided into six exhibition halls: the Grand Paintings Exhibition Hall of Zhang Yanqing, the Personal Collection Exhibition Hall, the Small-Sized Paintings Exhibition Hall, the Congratulations Works Exhibition Hall of Well-Known Painters from Within and Outside the Province, the Exhibition Hall of Zhang Yanqing’s Collected Canes, and the Exhibition Hall of Works by Renowned Calligraphers and Painters of Linqing City.
