Aromatic Plants Expo Park

The Aromatic Plants Expo Park is a national AA-level tourist attraction.

The Aromatic Plants Expo Park is located in Hanji Town, High-Tech Zone, Liaocheng City, Shandong Province.

Boasting over 3,000 acres of romantic lavender fields — the "Provence of Liaocheng" — the park showcases more than 40 types of fragrant plants including lavender, Roman chamomile, rosemary, catnip, sage, wormwood, and evening primrose. With long blooming periods, intense scents, and high visual appeal, it is the only aromatic plants expo park on the western Shandong Plain.

As one of the first major projects under Shandong Province’s “Rural Revitalization” initiative, the expo park was developed with technical support from the research team at the Institute of Botany, Chinese Academy of Sciences. Covering an area of over 3,000 acres, the park integrates the cultivation of aromatic plants with the research, development, processing, sales, and services of aromatic products. The project is mainly divided into three sectors: planting and processing, leisure tourism, and wellness and health care. It serves as a modern agricultural park that combines six industries — primarily agriculture, processing, and tourism services. The park will pilot and demonstrate an intercropping model of “high-quality trees + aromatic flowers” to promote adjustments in the local agricultural industrial structure and enhance ecological benefits.

The expo park project, with a total investment of 760 million yuan, commenced construction in February 2018. The first phase of the planned development has now been completed. This includes the Western Shandong Aromatic Plant Germplasm Resource Library, a seedling propagation and expansion base, and a 1,500-acre aromatic plant demonstration zone, where high-quality domestic and international aromatic crops such as lavender, Roman chamomile, and rosemary have been planted. The planned northern section, featuring an aromatic plant processing workshop, a product drying workshop, and an extraction pilot workshop, has been built and put into operation. A range of deeply processed premium daily chemical products — such as essential oils, hydrosols, cold-pressed essential oil soaps — as well as lifestyle items including lavender sleep pillows, Roman chamomile flower tea, and artistic sachets, have not only received acclaim at exhibitions like the China Forestry Industry Trade Fair but are also selling well in China’s high-end daily chemical and beauty & wellness markets. The park is currently expanding into overseas end markets.
