The Confucius Temple of Liaocheng Prefecture

The Confucius Temple of Liaocheng Prefecture is a cultural heritage site protected by Liaocheng City.

The Confucius Temple of Liaocheng Prefecture is located on the north side of East Daoshe Street in Liaocheng City. It is a temple dedicated to Confucius and Confucian sages throughout the dynasties. The prefectural Confucian school was also located here, also known as the Prefectural School or Temple School.

It was rebuilt at the beginning of the Hongwu era of the Ming Dynasty, expanded several times, and by the 16th year of the Qianlong reign (1751), it had reached a considerable scale. Major structures include the Jimen (Pole Gate), east and west corridors, the Memorial Hall for Distinguished Officials, the Memorial Hall for Local Sages, the Pan Pond Arch Bridge, the Lingxing Gate, the Dacheng Hall, the Chongsheng Hall, the Zhongyi Hall, the Minglun Hall, the Zhidao Studio, the Judede Studio, the Youyi Studio, the examination cells, the dining hall, the archery field, the Guande Hall, the Wanshou Temple, the professors' residences, the instructors' residences, and over a hundred other halls, studios, and dormitories, all enclosed by a palace wall. After the abolition of the prefecture and the suppression of Confucian worship, it was converted into a school. By the mid-1930s, it housed the Second Higher Primary School and the United Normal School.

Fan Zhuxian (1881–1938), originally named Jinbiao, also known as Duokui, with the courtesy name Zhuxian, was from Guantao County, Hebei Province. He was a renowned national hero, anti-Japanese martyr, and patriotic military leader. In his early years, Fan Zhuxian joined the Beiyang Army. After the Xinhai Revolution, he served as commander of the 8th Brigade. In 1931, he returned to Shandong and successively held positions as consultant to the 3rd Route Army, and as county magistrate of Yishui and Linyi counties. He was known for his clean governance and enjoyed strong local support.

In 1936, he was appointed as the Administrative Inspector and Garrison Commander of the 6th District of Shandong Province, as well as the county magistrate of Liaocheng.
