Yundong District Committee Revolutionary Memorial Hall

The Yundong District Committee Revolutionary Memorial Hall is located at the eastern end of Chiqiao Village, Hanji Township, Liaocheng Economic Development Zone.

The Yundong District Committee was a prefectural-level organization established by the Chinese Communist Party in the Hebei-Liaoning-Henan Border Region during the War of Resistance against Japan. It initially governed counties including Liaocheng, Chiping, Boping, Qingping, Qihe, and Dong'e, coexisting with the then Northwest Shandong District Committee. The Yundong District Committee was founded in the spring of 1939 in Xiaolizhuang, Boping, and relocated to the rural areas of Chiqiao and Dabai in the southern part of Chiping in 1940. In June 1948, it moved to Liaocheng, and in August 1949, after the establishment of Pingyuan Province, it was merged into the Liaocheng District Committee, leading to the dissolution of the district committee system. The areas of Chiqiao and Dabai in present-day Hanji Township served as the permanent base for the Yundong District Committee, the Special Administrative Region, and the Military Sub-district. From here, the Yundong District Committee led 3 million heroic people across the region in the battles of the War of Resistance against Japan and the Liberation War, making significant contributions to the independence of the Chinese nation and the liberation of the people.

The Yundong District Committee Revolutionary Memorial Hall was completed in June 2009. The memorial hall faces south and has a construction area of 1,300 square meters. Its name was inscribed by the renowned scholar and calligrapher Ouyang Zhongshi. The first exhibition hall covers an area of 60 square meters, featuring uniquely designed lighting, a crimson carpet, 25 display boards, and 156 photographs. It vividly and comprehensively recreates through text and images the historical process by which the Yundong District Committee led the people of the region in successive struggles and bloody battles until the victory of the revolution. The hall also houses seven display cabinets made of transparent tempered glass, exhibiting 12 artifacts from that time, including a bowl and plate used by the former member of the Politburo Central Committee, former Vice Premier of the State Council, and former Vice Chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People’s Congress—when he attended the guerrilla high school in Chiping South, as well as an earthenware pot used by local residents to prepare herbal medicine for wounded Eighth Route Army soldiers. Additionally, three tools used by the military and civilians at the site of the Yundong District Committee headquarters are displayed in the courtyard.

As an important attraction on Liaocheng’s premium red tourism route, the memorial hall receives a large number of visitors each year who come to receive revolutionary tradition education.

Chiqiao Village: Chiqiao Village in Hanji Township, Liaocheng High-Tech Zone, has a population of 1,155, 320 households, 30 Party members, and 2,023 mu of arable land.
