The June 27th Memorial Park is located about 1 kilometer southeast of Zhanghuishuo Village, approximately 4 kilometers east of the township government seat of Hanji Township in the Liaocheng Economic Development Zone.

On June 27, 1944, over 4,500 Japanese puppet troops carried out a massive "mopping-up" operation targeting the headquarters of the Yundong Regional Committee. The assault came from the south in Taipingzhuang, Liaocheng, the north in Boping and Chiping, the west in Dongzhuzhuang, Liaocheng, and the east in Niujiaodian, Dong'e, encircling the area from all sides. The military and civilians in the base area were forced to retreat toward Zhanghuishuo Village, and as the encirclement tightened, several attempts at breakout failed. The Japanese puppet troops carried out a brutal massacre in the open fields southeast of Zhanghuishuo Village, killing 134 anti-Japanese soldiers and civilians in what became known as the June 27th Tragedy. In July of the same year, the anti-Japanese government of Chiping County erected the June 27th Tragedy Memorial Monument.

In 1976, the Party Committee and Revolutionary Committee of Hanji Township built a pavilion to shelter the monument. In June 1984, the monument pavilion was listed as a prefectural-level protected cultural relic. Due to years of weathering, the pavilion suffered severe damage. In response to public demand, the Party Committee and government of Hanji Township raised funds through donations and completed the construction of the June 27th Memorial Park in June 2009. The park faces north and spans 54 meters from south to north and 40.8 meters from east to west, covering a total area of 2,200 square meters. At the center of the park stands the memorial pavilion and monument. The pavilion is 134 decimeters tall (symbolizing the 134 martyrs), and enshrines the original June 27th Tragedy Memorial Monument built in July 1944. The upper part of the north side of the pavilion displays a plaque inscribed with “June 27th Memorial Pavilion,” written by General Li Laizhu, former commander of the Beijing Military Region. Stone-carved corridors surround the east, south, and west sides of the park.

The June 27th Memorial Park serves as an educational base for the care of the next generation in Liaocheng, as well as a demonstration base for integrity education, party member education, and national defense education in the development zone. In April 1999, the tragedy monument pavilion within the park was designated as a municipal-level key cultural relics protection unit. As an important site along Liaocheng’s red tourism route, it attracts a large number of visitors each year who come to pay their respects and receive revolutionary tradition education.
