Fan Gong Ancestral Hall in Liangshui Town

The Fan Gong Ancestral Hall in Liangshui Town is a cultural relics protection unit of Shandong Province.

The Fan Gong Ancestral Hall is located in Liangshui Village, Liangshui Town, Dongchangfu District, Liaocheng City. It is now a provincial-level cultural relics protection unit and serves as a base for patriotic and revolutionary tradition education.

The Fan Gong Ancestral Hall was built in April 1941 by the military and civilians of Liaocheng to commemorate Fan Zhuxian and other soldiers who sacrificed their lives in the War of Resistance against Japan. The original construction covered an area of 4,899 square meters and included a main gate, main hall, second hall, east and west wing rooms, a memorial tower, and other structures. Currently, only the main gate and the memorial tower remain.

The main gate is 2.24 meters wide and 2.95 meters high. On the left side of the gate wall, there is a protective marker stele for the Fan Gong Ancestral Hall erected by the Liaocheng County Revolutionary Committee. To the left of the gate, there is another protective marker stele set up by the Dongchangfu District People’s Government. The memorial tower is 15 meters tall, standing solemnly behind the mountain gate. It is a four-eaved, hexagonal brick pagoda. The front of the tower is inscribed with “Memorial Tower for the Martyrs of the Sixth District of Shandong Province in the War of Resistance.” The body of the tower bears several inscriptions and stone plaques from notable figures, including Chiang Kai-shek’s “Spirit Immortal,” Lin Sen’s “Glory of the Loyal and Heroic,” Li Shuchun’s “Honor the Past and Benefit the Future,” Qi Zixiu’s “Die for Righteousness,” and Wang Jinxiang’s “Noble Spirit Lives On.” Approximately 20 meters north of the memorial tower, there is a stone stele buried underground commemorating the heroic martyrdom of General Fan Zhuxian.

Behind the tower was originally the main hall of the Fan Gong Ancestral Hall. In the center of the hall stood a statue of General Fan Zhuxian in military uniform, and the walls on both sides were adorned with several murals depicting scenes from the War of Resistance. In front of the main hall, there were two stone steles: one was a biographical stele of General Fan Zhuxian, and the other recorded the establishment of the Fan Gong Ancestral Hall and the memorial tower. There were also three east and three west wing rooms in front of the main hall, with multiple stone steles embedded in the walls, listing the names of martyrs who died in the war. Behind the main hall was the “Temple of Martial Saint,” consisting of three rooms that housed half-length statues of Guan Yu, Yue Fei, and General Fan Zhuxian. Today, the halls of the Fan Gong Ancestral Hall have disappeared, but the memorial tower remains intact.

In July 2015, the Dongchangfu District People’s Government initiated the restoration project of the Fan Gong Ancestral Hall. Currently, the main construction of the ancestral hall has been completed, and landscaping, decoration, and other work are underway.

The Fan Gong Ancestral Hall in Liangshui Town is located in Liangshui Town, Dongchangfu District, Liaocheng City, and dates back to 1941.

On October 10, 2013, the Fan Gong Ancestral Hall in Liangshui Town was announced by the People’s Government of Shandong Province as part of the fourth batch of provincial-level cultural relics protection units in Shandong.

Liangshui Town: Located in the northwest of Liaocheng, Liangshui Town has historically been an important town in western Shandong. It is now a central town under the jurisdiction of Dongchangfu District, Liaocheng City, serving as the political, economic, cultural, and information hub of the border region of Liaocheng, Chiping, Linzi, and Guan counties (cities). It is also an emerging town in western Shandong that is rapidly developing. The town has a total of 108 villages, a population of 67,000, and covers an area of 142 square kilometers (including 146,000 mu of arable land). In 2004, the per capita net income of farmers in the town was 3,800 yuan.
