Wenshang Guan Yu Temple

Wenshang Guan Yu Temple is a national AAA-level tourist attraction and a cultural relic protection unit of Shandong Province.

Wenshang County Guan Yu Temple is located on Shangshu Road in Wenshang County, approximately 40 kilometers from downtown Jining. It is a typical architectural complex built in the Yuan Dynasty style. According to temple inscriptions, during the mid-Yuan Dynasty, the area suffered from a prolonged drought. The local people prayed to Guan Yu for divine intervention to bring rain and voluntarily contributed funds to build the Guan Yu Temple. From the Ming Dynasty’s Minister of War Lu Ying onwards, until the Tongzhi era of the Qing Dynasty, the temple underwent multiple renovations. In 1986, the provincial cultural relics department allocated special funds to repair the main hall, restoring the temple to its former appearance. The Guan Yu Temple faces south and is composed of the temple gate, main hall, side halls, bedroom hall, and theater stage. The main hall is the central structure, featuring three bays with a width of 13.4 meters from east to west and a depth of 9.2 meters from north to south, standing 8 meters tall. It is built in the hip-and-gable roof style with a single eave, covered with glazed tiles, adorned with ridge ornaments and animal figures, and constructed with brick walls. The entire hall exudes a majestic and ancient solemnity. Inside the hall, statues of Guan Yu, Guan Ping, and Zhou Cang are enshrined, and the interior walls are covered with murals.

Located at the confluence of the Wen River and the Grand Canal in Nanwang Town, Wenshang County. It was built to commemorate the achievements of Song Li and Bai Ying in constructing the Nanwang Water Control Hub Project. Initially established in the early Ming Dynasty, it was subsequently expanded over time. By the 10th year of the Xianfeng reign in the Qing Dynasty (1860), it had developed into a large architectural complex, mainly consisting of the Dragon King Hall, Yu the Great Hall, Memorial Temple of Song Gong, Memorial Temple of Pan Gong, Memorial Temple of Bai Gong, Memorial Temple of Wen Gong, Shuiming Tower, Theater Stage, Guanyin Pavilion, Guan Yu Temple, and Grasshopper God Temple. It is a provincial cultural relic protection unit and a renowned tourist attraction showcasing canal culture.
