Lianhua Ancient Town – Yiqian has over fifty ancient buildings from the Ming and Qing dynasties. During the Agrarian Revolutionary War and the Fifth Counter-Encirclement Campaign, famous battles such as the Gaohutao Battle, the Wannianting Battle, and the Gouloufeng Battle all took place within Yiqian. After the Gaohutao Battle in August 1934, the Red Army retreated and stationed in the Yiqian area. The accommodations used by the Red Army at that time were mainly residential houses built during the Ming and Qing dynasties, with ten main structures including the “Lai Xun Ancestral Hall,” “Da Fu Mansion,” and “Bu Zheng Ancestral Temple.” Existing facilities used by the Red Army include dugouts and horse stables. Among them, the “Da Fu Mansion” was the former site of the headquarters of the First Red Army Corps. Many buildings still retain slogans written by the Red Army at the time, such as: “Overthrow the traitor Chiang Kai-shek, capture He Yingqin alive,” “Brothers in the White Army, don’t fight among yourselves—march north to resist Japan, even death is worth it,” “Support the Chinese Communist Party, overthrow the reactionary Kuomintang,” and “Overthrow all reactionary elements,” among others. These provide valuable physical materials for the study of the history of the Chinese revolution.

Today, Yiqian Town, where these residences are located, has been listed as one of the first provincial-level historical and cultural towns in Jiangxi Province. In April 1999, General Zhang Zhen, former Vice Chairman of the Central Military Commission, revisited Guangchang, recalling the revolutionary struggle years of the Soviet Area during the counter-encirclement campaigns, expressing hope for promoting the revolutionary spirit of the Soviet Area and building the lotus-producing land of Guangchang into an even better place.
