Former Site of the Wushigang Battle

The Former Site of the Wushigang Battle is a classic red tourism attraction.

Wushigang is located about 2 kilometers southwest of the county town, beside the Changsha Highway. Shaped like a black gauze cap, it is round, serene, and beautiful. “Spring Clouds over Wushi” was one of the ancient Ten Scenic Spots of Guangchang. During the struggle in the Soviet Area, two fierce battles took place at Wushigang. To this day, “traces of the Red Army remain on the hill, and the voices of our predecessors seem to echo in our ears.” The first battle occurred on May 27, 1931, when Mao Zedong, Zhu De, Peng Dehuai, and others directed the Red Army to capture Guangchang County here. The second battle took place in mid-to-late April 1934 during the Fifth Encirclement Campaign, when the temporary headquarters of the Red Army for the Defense of Guangchang in the battle was set up at the Sanguan Temple on Wushigang. Due to incorrect military guidance, this battle ultimately ended in failure. Today, Wushigang still preserves red historical relics such as Red Army trenches, the former site of the Front Committee of the First Front Army of the Red Army, and the Sanguan Temple.
