Taohua Mountain Temple

Taohua Mountain Temple is a cultural tourism attraction.

Located on Taohua Mountain, 5 kilometers south of Baizhu Village in Tangyu Town. Originally built during the Song Dynasty, it was later abandoned. In the late Ming Dynasty, Monk Jia’an renovated the temple. It was said of Monk Jia’an at the time that “he stayed on Taohua Peak by day and lodged at Shimen by night.” In the early Qing Dynasty, it was ranked first among the Four Great Buddhist Monasteries of Yihuang (Taohua Temple, Jingu Hall, Banana Temple, and Shigong Temple). During the Yongzheng reign of the Qing Dynasty (1723–1735), the main hall was burned down. In the late Qing Dynasty, Monk Minghai devoted himself to renovating and expanding the temple. In front of the temple are two levels of courtyards paved with strip stones, in the center of which stand five large stupa towers for monks Haishan, Jia’an, Leiting, Weiye, and Louyuan, housing the ashes of generations of monks. In 1984, it was listed as an open temple in the Fuzhou region.
