The Tangyin Ancient Architectural Complex is a National Key Cultural Relics Protection Unit.

Tangyin Town is one of the historically renowned handicraft and commercial towns in Jiangxi Province. It got its name during the ninth year of the Tian Sheng era of the Northern Song Dynasty (1031 AD), when the Wu family settled here and planted sweet osmanthus trees. It has a history of over 970 years. The Tangyin Ancient Architectural Complex features a diverse range of building types, with nearly 100 structures including ancestral halls, official residences, storefronts, gate towers, memorial archways, brick pagodas, covered bridges, roadside pavilions, and residential houses. Notable among them are the Eight Princes’ Ancestral Hall, Ying’en Pagoda, Cheng’en Archway, the Luo Family Courtyard, and the Official Hat Hall residence. The complex not only preserves the architectural styles of the height of the Ming and Qing dynasties but also reflects the local historical, economic, cultural standards of Tangyin Town, as well as the aesthetic preferences of its builders. Lauded by domestic architectural scholars as a “microcosm of Ming and Qing architectural history,” it serves as an extremely valuable physical resource for studying ancient Chinese architecture, especially wooden and brick structures in southern China.

On October 7, 2019, the Tangyin Ancient Architectural Complex was included in the eighth batch of National Key Cultural Relics Protection Units.

Tangyin Town: Located in the central-eastern part of Jiangxi Province, in the southeastern area of Yihuang County and along the middle reaches of the Yishui River, Tangyin Town borders Nanyuan Township to the east, Zhenkou Township to the south, Zhonggang Township to the west, and Fenggang Town to the north. The town covers a total land area of 179.5 square kilometers, with arable land spanning 31,677 mu (including 29,376 mu of paddy fields and 2,301 mu of dry land), and forested land covering 9,953 hectares (149,295 mu), including 413.6 hectares (6,204 mu) of fruit tree plantations, mainly oranges, chestnuts, bayberries, and red dates.
