Ice Well Terrace

Located at the northernmost end of the “Three Terraces,” it was built in the 19th year of the Jian’an era (214 AD), stands 8 zhang high, and has 140 rooms. It is named after the well on the terrace that stored ice. The well is 15 zhang deep and stores large quantities of ice blocks, coal, grain, salt, and other items for emergency use. During the Northern Zhou Dynasty, the structures on the terrace were burned down, and in the late Ming Dynasty, they were washed away by the Zhang River, leaving no above-ground remains.
