Xiang-E-Gan Revolutionary Memorial Hall

The Xiang-E-Gan Revolutionary Memorial Hall is a classic red tourism destination and a national defense education base.

The Xiang-E-Gan Revolutionary Memorial Hall in Wanzai County, Yichun City, Jiangxi Province, is situated in the middle section of Yangyue Avenue in the county town. Established in 1961, the hall was first opened to the public in May 1962 with an in-situ exhibition at the former site of the Xiang-E-Gan Provincial Committee of the Chinese Communist Party in Xianyuan, Wanzai. It was forced to close in 1968 due to the impact of the Cultural Revolution, and its operations were suspended. In March 1983, the Xiang-E-Gan Revolutionary Memorial Hall was restored, and the Wanzai County Museum was also established, operating under a dual-name, single-team structure.

The entire complex covers an area of more than 1,880 square meters. The main exhibition building is a quadrangle-style antique brick-concrete structure with a floor area of 580 square meters. It features two exhibitions: the basic display “The History of the Xiang-E-Gan Revolutionary Struggle,” divided into three sections, introduces the formation and development of the Xiang-E-Gan Revolutionary Base Area. The display showcases over 200 revolutionary relics, vividly recreating the battles fought by older-generation proletarian revolutionaries such as Mao Zedong, Zhu De, Peng Dehuai, Teng Daiyuan, and Huang Keliu, alongside the people of the Xiang-E-Gan border region. A second exhibition, “The Revolutionary Achievements of Veterans from Wanzai,” added in 1991, highlights the revolutionary careers of 17 veterans from the county. The museum also includes supporting facilities such as a relic storage room and office buildings, housing thousands of revolutionary and historical artifacts.

The new hall is located at No. 322 Yangyue Avenue in the county town, covering a total area of more than 1,880 square meters, and consists of two parts: the exhibition room and the office building. The exhibition room features two thematic displays: “The History of the Xiang-E-Gan Revolutionary Struggle” and “The Revolutionary Achievements of Selected Veterans from Wanzai.” The “Xiang-E-Gan Revolutionary Struggle” exhibition was named one of the “Top Ten Boutique Exhibitions” in the province’s museum displays in 2014. The museum provides visitors with electronic touch-screen audio guides and video players for guided tours.

The Xiang-E-Gan Revolutionary Memorial Hall was designated as a Jiangxi Provincial Patriotic Education Base in 2001, a field teaching site for the China Executive Leadership Academy Jinggangshan in 2010, a National Defense Education Demonstration Base in 2012, and rated as a National Third-Class Museum in 2013.
