Xianyuan Hunan-Hubei-Jiangxi Red Tourism Scenic Area
The Xianyuan Hunan-Hubei-Jiangxi Red Tourism Scenic Area is a national AAA-level tourist attraction and a classic red tourism destination.
The Xianyuan Red Tourism Scenic Area is located in the northwest of Wanrong County, about 50 kilometers from the county seat. On April 12, 1932, the Hunan-Hubei-Jiangxi Provincial Party Committee, the Provincial Soviet Government, and other provincial-level agencies relocated from Xiushui to Xianyuan, which was then known as the “Little Moscow.” The scenic area preserves a large number of revolutionary sites and features rich resources for “red tourism.” The former sites of the Hunan-Hubei-Jiangxi Provincial Party Committee and the Provincial Soviet Government, as well as the former site of the Red Flag Newspaper Office of the Provincial Committee, have been designated as national key cultural relics protection units. The Xianyuan Red Tourism Scenic Area has also been recognized as one of “Jiangxi Province’s Top Ten Beloved Red Tourism Attractions,” a “Jiangxi Patriotic Education Base,” and a “Jiangxi National Defense Education Base.” In addition, the area boasts numerous cultural and natural attractions, such as Huangpijian (the second highest peak in the county at 1,182 meters above sea level), Guanyuan Mountain Forest Farm with its many prized ancient trees and rare animals, and the picturesque Xianren Lake (Tankou Reservoir).
With its beautiful mountains, clear waters, and pleasant environment, it is an ideal destination for sightseeing, leisure, and vacation. The Former Site of the Hunan-Hubei-Jiangxi Provincial Soviet Government of the Chinese Soviet Republic: (April 1932 – January 1934) In April 1932, the Hunan-Hubei-Jiangxi Provincial Soviet Government of the Chinese Soviet Republic relocated here from Shangshan, Xiushui. It consisted of nine departments, including finance, land, workers’ and peasants’ inspection, labor, and internal affairs, overseeing the work of over thirty border county Soviet governments. In September 1932 and October 1933, the second and third Hunan-Hubei-Jiangxi Provincial Congresses of Workers, Peasants, and Soldiers were held in Xiaoyuan, where resolutions on Soviet construction and the Red Army were passed, and new members of the Provincial Soviet Executive Committee were elected. During this period, the Provincial Soviet Government improved its internal structure, issued a series of important laws and regulations, and advanced the political, military, economic, and cultural development of the Soviet area.
In early 1934, the Kuomintang launched a major offensive against Xiaoyuan, forcing the Provincial Soviet organs to evacuate and move to the area around Zizhuang in Tonggu. The former site was originally a civilian residence built during the Xianfeng era of the Qing Dynasty, featuring a brick-and-wood structure with a total area of 1,010 square meters. The Former Site of the Hunan-Hubei-Jiangxi Provincial Committee of the Communist Party of China: (April 1932 – January 1934) On April 12, 1932, in order to consolidate the Xiutongwan base area and expand toward the Yuan River and Zhangshu in the southeast to connect with the Hunan-Jiangxi Soviet Area and establish close ties with the Central Soviet Area, the Provisional Hunan-Hubei-Jiangxi Provincial Committee of the CPC relocated here from Shangshan, Xiushui. During its time in Xiaoyuan (Xianyuan), the Provincial Committee held the Second Provincial Party Congress in September 1932, officially electing the Second Provincial Committee led by Comrade Lin Ruisheng. Multiple Standing Committee (enlarged) meetings were held here to develop the Party organization, strengthen the construction of the Soviet government, economy, and culture, support the armed struggle of workers and peasants in the Hunan-Hubei-Jiangxi border region, tie down enemy forces, and assist the Central Soviet Area in achieving a brilliant victory in the Fourth Counter-Encirclement Campaign. In early 1934, under heavy pressure from the reactionary Kuomintang, the new Provincial Committee led by Comrade Chen Shouchang decided to proactively evacuate the provincial organs from Xiaoyuan and move to the area around Zizhuang in Tonggu in order to preserve revolutionary strength. The former site was originally a civilian residence with a total area of 748 square meters.
