Former Site of the Hunan-Hubei-Jiangxi Military District

The former site of the Hunan-Hubei-Jiangxi Military District (Headquarters) was one of the major revolutionary sites in the Hunan-Hubei-Jiangxi Revolutionary Base during the Second Revolutionary Civil War period.

This site is a residential building from the late Qing Dynasty and early Republican period, facing west and situated eastward, built with earth and wood in a “7”-shaped layout, covering a construction area of 376.65 square meters. It included the military district headquarters, political department, and general affairs department.

The Hunan-Hubei-Jiangxi Military District (Headquarters) was stationed in Xianyuan for nearly two years, where it organized the 16th and 18th Red Armies of the Border Region, established the Fifth Branch of the Central Military and Political School, and trained nearly a thousand military and political cadres. It achieved victories in the Gangkou and Zhumuqiao battles, crushed the Kuomintang’s “encirclement and suppression” campaigns against the Hunan-Hubei-Jiangxi Soviet Area, pinned down over 60 Kuomintang regiments, and effectively supported the counter-“encirclement and suppression” efforts in the Central Soviet Area. It played a significant role in the existence and development of the Hunan-Hubei-Jiangxi Revolutionary Base.

The township covers a total area of 167 square kilometers, including 23,600 mu of cultivated land and 200,000 mu of forestland, with a forest coverage rate of 85%.
