The former site of the Fifth Branch of the Central Military and Political School of the Chinese Soviet Republic was one of the major revolutionary sites in the Hunan-Hubei-Jiangxi Revolutionary Base during the Second Revolutionary Civil War period.

This site was built in the 8th year of the Republic of China. Originally, it was an ancestral hall of Yuan Aijing from Xinshe Village, dedicated to honoring ancestors. It faces south, is built with a wood-and-earth structure, and has two levels — upper and lower — with a roughly 9.5-square-meter courtyard between them. There are four rooms in total, covering a total area of 410 square meters. On the wall of the upper level’s central room, the original “school anthem” of the Red Fifth Branch is preserved. The site remains well-preserved.

The Fifth Branch of the Central Military and Political School of the Chinese Soviet Republic was established after the Third Expanded Plenary Session of the Provincial Committee of the Hunan-Hubei-Jiangxi Soviet in 1932, based on the former military school led by the provincial Soviet government. On April 12, 1932, it moved to Xiaoyuan together with the Provincial Committee of the Hunan-Hubei-Jiangxi Soviet and was stationed in this building. It included a Military Education Department, a Political Department, and an Administrative Office. Students were divided into three battalions: political, artillery, and infantry. A total of three training sessions were held, each lasting six months, training nearly 900 military and political cadres. These efforts strengthened the leadership of the Red Army in the Hunan-Hubei-Jiangxi region and the guard regiments and guerrilla units in various counties, playing a significant role in achieving victory in the revolutionary war.
