The former site of the Hunan-Hubei-Jiangxi Border Special Committee of the CPC is a cultural relic protection unit of Jiangxi Province.

The former site of the Hunan-Hubei-Jiangxi Border Special Committee of the CPC is located at Lan Family House in Chengkeng, 5.5 kilometers southwest of Guanyuanshan Township. The house faces south and is surrounded by mountains on all sides. It is a civil-style residence from the Republican era, built with earth and wood, covered with blue tiles, featuring a split-level roof on both sides and lattice windows. On the wall above the front door frame is inscribed the words “Lenin Room.” The area covers 234 square meters, of which two-thirds have collapsed.

The Hunan-Hubei-Jiangxi Border Special Committee was reinstated in September 1928. In the spring of 1929, it relocated from the Hunan border to Yangzhekeng in Xiaoyuan, Wanzi, with its headquarters housing four departments: finance, communications, clerical work, and printing—all operating in this small house. At that time, to strengthen the struggle in the Wanzi area, the committee sent members deep into areas such as Chuanbutan, Gaoling, and Zhumuqiao to mobilize the masses, secretly develop trade unions, peasant associations, and party organizations, establish workers’ and peasants’ armed forces, and carry out revolutionary activities. By August 1929, Peng Dehuai and Teng Daiyuan led the main forces of the Red Fifth Army back to the Hunan-Hubei-Jiangxi border region, bolstering the revolutionary strength there and ushering in new developments in the revolutionary situation across Wanzi and the entire border area.

To this end, on September 2 of the same year, the committee held an expanded meeting in Chengkeng. Based on the new situation, important decisions were made. Ten executive committee members and three alternate members of the Second Executive Committee of the Hunan-Hubei-Jiangxi Border Special Committee of the CPC were elected, with Wang Shoudao appointed as the committee secretary. In early December, the second meeting of the Second Executive Committee was convened. The meeting analyzed the prevailing situation, determined the tasks, working guidelines, and plans for the party in the border region, and on December 10 passed the “Resolution of the Second Plenary Session of the C.C.P. Hunan-Hubei-Jiangxi Border Special Committee.” It was also decided that Huang Gonglue would serve as the Political Commissar of the Red Fifth Army Military Commission. Soon after, to facilitate guidance of work in Pingjiang and Xiushui, the committee headquarters moved to Pingjiang by the end of the year. The border special committee maintained its presence in Wanzi for nearly a year.
