The former residence of Comrade Mao Zedong in Huangmao is located within the Qiaohui Public Building in Huangmao Town. The house faces east and sits to the west, with a spacious courtyard in front that features a small pond. The rear of the house connects to Huangmao Street. The residence is built with a brick-and-wood structure and topped with blue tiles. It has a split-level drainage system at the front and back, with windows on both the front and rear walls of the main hall. Inside, there is one living room and two bedrooms. Behind the back wall of the living room is a small courtyard (tianjing), with a small room at each end, covering a total area of 80 square meters.

In mid-August 1930, after Comrades Mao Zedong and Zhu De led the First Red Army Corps out of the county town, they split into two routes—one passing through Gaocheng, Lantian, Lingdong, and Zhutan, and the other via Daqiao, through Shutang and Baishui—before reconvening in Huangmao. Comrade Mao Zedong arrived in Huangmao on August 18 and stayed at this residence. On that day, Mao and Zhu presided over a high-level military cadres' meeting in Huangmao, where they made the wise decision to annihilate the enemy in Wenjiashi and issued the “Order to March on Wenjiashi.” The following day, Comrade Mao Zedong also personally wrote a letter titled “To the Western Fujian Special Committee via the Southwest Jiangxi Special Committee and Then to the Central Committee.” In the letter, he reported on the recent military operations and action plans of the First Red Army Corps, as well as related matters.
