Introduction

Located in the southeastern part of Chongwen District, it covers a total area of 118 hectares, including 300,000 square meters of water surface and 3,700 meters of meandering lake shoreline built from natural and cut stones. The park features dragon cypress, dragon beard willow, and dragon claw locust trees; there are also 10 plant-shaped dragons about 20 meters long and two flower dragons. Stone arch bridges, Twin Pavilion Bridge, and Longtan Waterfall divide the lake into four small islands, four peninsulas, three shoals, one canyon, and six green areas near the bridges. Visitors can go boating on the lake. The surroundings include pavilions, lush plants, and many new themed areas centered around the “dragon,” such as the Longyin Pavilion Area, Longtan Area, Dragon Character Stone Forest Area, Longmen Area, and Lotus Pond & Flower Isle Area. In the northwest of the park stands a temple dedicated to Yuan Chonghuan, a national hero from the late Ming Dynasty, which houses his portrait, some stone inscriptions, and elegiac writings by figures like Kang Youwei. The southern part of the park hosts the 17-mu Chongwen District Children’s Activity Center. A collection of uniquely styled, elegant classical garden structures makes Longtan Park one of Beijing’s refined and modern garden parks. Since its official opening in March 1986, the park has hosted numerous large-scale events, including the annual Longtan Spring Festival Temple Fair, the 1988 International Dragon Boat Race, and the “Double Ninth Festival” garden party.
