Tomb of Sun Can
The Tomb of Sun Can is a cultural relic protection unit of Jiangxi Province.
The tomb of Sun Can, an ancestor of Dr. Sun Yat-sen and titled Duke of Dongping, is located in Majia Pit, about 2 kilometers south of Ningdu County. Sun Can was a man from the Tang Dynasty who originally lived in Chenliu, Bianzhou (present-day Kaifeng County, Henan). In the third year of the Zhonghe era (883) during Emperor Xizong’s reign, he was selected as a centenarian and granted the title of Duke of Dongping for his military achievements. He led troops southward to fight against the Huang Chao Rebellion, campaigned through Qianzhou and Qianhua (now Ningdu County), and eventually settled there. His descendants multiplied and spread widely, making him the founding ancestor of the Sun clan in Jiangxi, Fujian, and Guangdong provinces. Dr. Sun Yat-sen was the twenty-fifth-generation descendant of Sun Li. The tomb of Sun Li was initially built in the late Tang Dynasty and underwent multiple renovations during the Ming and Qing dynasties. In November 1986, on the 120th anniversary of Dr. Sun Yat-sen’s birth, the tomb was restored, with a new gravestone and inscription erected, the burial site expanded, and a platform created in front of the tomb along with several steps and a memorial archway-style gate, giving the site a solemn and majestic appearance.
Sun Yat-sen (1866–1925), also known as Wen, with the courtesy name Zaizhi and the art names Risun and Yixian, childhood name Dixiang, alias Zhongshanqiao, commonly went by the name Zhongshan. He was born into a farming family in Cuiheng Village, Xiangshan County (now Zhongshan City), Guangdong Province. In his youth, influenced by the tradition of struggle among the people of Guangdong, he admired the revolutionary cause of the Taiping Heavenly Kingdom. He was a pioneer of China’s modern national democratic revolution, a great forerunner of China’s democratic revolution, the founder of the Republic of China and the Kuomintang, an advocate of the Three Principles of the People, and the creator of the Five-Power Constitution. He was the first to raise the banner of complete opposition to feudalism... More detailed information on Sun Yat-sen ++
