Langji Filial Piety Archway
The Langji Filial Piety Archway is a cultural heritage site protected at the Jiangxi Provincial level.
The Langji Filial Piety Archway is located in the central part of Langji Village, Ningdu, and was designated as a provincial-level cultural heritage site by the provincial government on December 28, 1987.
The front of the archway is inscribed with “Archway Honoring Huang, Wife of Confucian Scholar Ye Xingsan,” with the word “Imperial Edict” written at the top. The back features the prominent characters “Filial Piety.” It was established during the Qing Dynasty’s Qianlong era in honor of Huang, the wife of Ye Xingsan from the village. According to Xu Difu, the widow Huang endured great hardship to raise her son to adulthood. When her son achieved scholarly success and returned home in glory, she passed away due to years of overwork. Upon learning of her story, Emperor Qianlong issued an imperial edict to construct this memorial archway. The village also has several other ancestral halls and ancient houses, offering a glimpse into its former prosperity.
