Former Site of the Jiangxi Provincial Soviet Government in Ningdu

The Former Site of the Jiangxi Provincial Soviet Government in Ningdu is a cultural relic protection unit of Jiangxi Province and a classic red tourism destination.

The Former Site of the Jiangxi Provincial Soviet Government in Ningdu is situated southwest of Qili Village, Meijiang Town, Ningdu County, in a building called “Lai Cuiting Ancestral Hall.” It faces south, with a small pond to the south and neighboring village homes on the east, west, and north. From January 1933 to October 1934, the Jiangxi Provincial Soviet organs were based here, and Zeng Shan served as the Chairman of the Provincial Soviet. From December 21 to 29, 1933, to accomplish the combat tasks set forth by the Provincial Party Congress and to give the people of the Jiangxi Soviet Area and its various levels of Soviet governments more initiative in the face of the unprecedentedly large-scale Fifth Encirclement Campaign, the Second Congress of Workers, Peasants, and Soldiers of the Jiangxi Provincial Soviet was held in Qili Village, Bosheng County. The congress was attended by 357 official delegates and 20 delegates from the White Areas. Zeng Shan delivered the work report of the Provincial Soviet. The congress elected a new Executive Committee of the Jiangxi Provincial Soviet Government composed of 65 members including Liu Qiyao, a Workers’ and Peasants’ Inspection Committee including members such as Cai Chang, and the new Executive Committee appointed Liu Qiyao as the Chairman of the Jiangxi Provincial Soviet Government, with Zeng Shan and Xu Dazhi as Vice Chairmen, Cai Chang as the Chairwoman of the Workers’ and Peasants’ Inspection Committee, and Zhong Xichang as Vice Chairwoman. On December 18, 2006, it was designated as a Cultural Relic Protection Unit of Jiangxi Province.

Meijiang Town: Located in the central part of Ningdu County along the Meijiang River, Meijiang Town is the seat of Ningdu County government and serves as the county’s political, economic, and cultural center. To the east, it neighbors Gouhou Township and Huitong Township; to the south, Zhuzuo Township; to the west, Qingtang Town; and to the north, Anfu Township and Shishang Town. The town features flat terrain overall, surrounded mostly by hills and mountains. National Highways 319 and 236, Provincial Highways 208 and 216, and the Changsha Highway run through the area, while the Jiguang, Quannan, and Changning expressways pass nearby.
