The Former Site of the General Headquarters of the First Red Army at Yangji is a cultural relic protection unit of Jiangxi Province and a classic red tourism destination.

The Hu Family Ancestral Temple is located in the center of the village, facing south with its back to the north. It features an exterior of brick and an interior of timber, covering an area of over 600 square meters, and was built in the year of Xinyou during the Kangxi reign (1682 AD). During the first and second Counter-Encirclement Campaigns, this site served as the headquarters of the First Red Army. Historical records indicate that the First Red Army headquarters was stationed in Yangji twice, from December 28, 1930 to August 11–14, 1931. On December 28, 1930, the General Headquarters of the First Red Army was established in Yangji to plan the first Counter-Encirclement Campaign. On December 30, under the command of Mao Zedong and Zhu De, the Red Army launched a major offensive against the main enemy forces led by Zhang Huizan. The fierce battle continued until evening. The Red Army achieved a great victory, annihilating the headquarters of the 18th Division and two brigades—the 52nd and 53rd—capturing the enemy’s frontline commander Zhang Huizan, taking 9,000 soldiers prisoner, and seizing a large amount of weaponry. Building on this momentum, the Red Army continued its advance and fought two more battles between December 30 and January 3, 1931, successfully crushing the Kuomintang’s first Encirclement Campaign.
