Destination Introduction
The former site of Wanliu Hall is located within Guangqumen in Chongwen District. During the Yuan Dynasty, the Right Chancellor Lian Xixian built a villa named Wanliu Hall outside You’anmen at Caoqiao. In the early Qing Dynasty, Grand Secretary Feng Pu admired its reputation and built a villa within Guangqumen, also naming it “Wanliu Hall.”
Wanliu Hall covered an area of over a hundred acres. The garden featured earthen mounds, and was planted with willows and various flowers. An Imperial Calligraphy Pavilion was also constructed, inside which hung a plaque inscribed with Emperor Kangxi’s calligraphy “Jian Lian Tang.” Later, Wanliu Hall came under the ownership of Shi Wengui, who further built the Dabei Pavilion, the Main Hall, the Guan Yu Hall, and the Maitreya Hall, collectively known as “Nianhua Temple.”
