Stele on the Dredging of the Drainage Channels by Zhengyang Bridge
The Stele on the Dredging of the Drainage Channels by Zhengyang Bridge is a cultural tourism attraction.
Destination Introduction
The Stele on the Dredging of the Drainage Channels by Zhengyang Bridge is located in the western part of Chongwen District, at No. 78 Hongmiao Street. Built in the 56th year of the Qianlong reign during the Qing Dynasty (1791), the inscription on the stele documents the waterways of Beijing and holds significant value for the study of the city’s geography and historical changes. In 1984, it was designated as a municipal-level cultural relics protection unit.
Originally situated inside the mountain gate of the Hui Ci Hong Temple, the temple structure no longer exists today.
Location: Western part of Chongwen District
The stele is square-shaped and faces south, standing approximately 8 meters tall with each side measuring 1.45 meters wide. The top features a pyramidal roof adorned with four ridges, each carved with a dragon. The dragons are depicted with raised heads and arched bodies, appearing ready to take flight, converging toward the finial. The base of the stele is a Sumeru pedestal with lotus petal patterns—both upright and inverted—along with cloud, dragon, and bodhi leaf motifs. The top and sides of the stele are bordered with dragon-patterned engravings. All four sides of the stele bear inscriptions in both Chinese and Manchu scripts. The upper part of the front side is titled in Chinese characters as “Stele on the Dredging of the Drainage Channels by Zhengyang Bridge.” Transportation Information
