Wanshou Temple

Wanshou Temple is a cultural heritage site protected at the provincial level in Fujian Province.

Wanshou Temple is located within Xianyou No.1 Middle School in Chengnei Community, Licheng Subdistrict, Xianyou County. It was originally established during the Jianyan era of the Song Dynasty by Fu Qian, a descendant of a Song-era Dragon Pavilion Academician, and was rebuilt during the Hongwu era of the Ming Dynasty. Successive generations carried out multiple renovations, with the school itself funding a major restoration in 2000. The temple faces south and measures 37.4 meters in width and 63.2 meters in depth, covering a total area of 2,363.68 square meters. It is a single-courtyard corridor-style building, with structures arranged along a central axis: the ceremonial gate, the Heavenly King Hall, the courtyard, the worship platform, the Jade Emperor Hall, and side corridors, with the Fu Family Ancestral Shrine located to the right of the courtyard. The Heavenly King Hall features a flush-gable roof and a post-and-lintel timber frame structure with both raised and through-tenon techniques. It has three bays in width and seven rafters in depth (two in the front, four in the rear). The Jade Emperor Hall has a double-eave hip-and-gable roof and a post-and-lintel timber frame structure with both raised and through-tenon techniques. It has three bays in width and eleven rafters in depth. In front of the Jade Emperor Hall stands a pair of stone-carved dragon pillars. The dougong brackets are intricately carved with floral designs, and other wooden components are adorned with painted gold embellishments. Five pairs of couplets from the Song Dynasty period are preserved on the side corridors of the temple. The current buildings retain architectural styles from the Qing Dynasty. Wanshou Temple now serves as the school history exhibition hall for Xianyou No.1 Middle School. The temple is well-preserved, relatively large in scale, and features exquisite carvings, making it of significant research value for the study of the educational, religious, and architectural history of Xianyou County. It was designated as a Fujian Provincial Cultural Heritage Site in 2009.

Chengnei Community: The Chengnei Community Residents' Committee is situated in the central area of Licheng Subdistrict. It earned its name because it was the location of the county government before the liberation and lies within the town area. To the east, it neighbors Dongmen Community; to the west, it borders Hongqiao Community on the west side of Gongyuan Road; to the south, it adjoins Nanqiao Community; and to the north, it leans against Wanfu and Feishan Villages. The land area covers 1.9 square kilometers. Chengnei Community consists of 14 resident (village) groups: including 5 residential groups and 9 agricultural groups. The community has a total of 2,122 households and a population of 6,010, including 3,995 in the residential groups and 2,015 in the agricultural groups.
