Puping Chen Family Tomb

The Puping Chen Family Tomb is a cultural heritage site protected at the provincial level in Fujian Province.

The Puping Chen Family Tomb, also known as the Tomb of Chen Dang, is located in Puping Village, Duwei Town, Xianyou County, Putian City. It faces northeast and measures 12 meters in width and 65 meters in depth. The layout is shaped like the Chinese character “风” (wind). The tomb mound is constructed of brick and stone, resembling a turtle’s back. At its center is a square-headed tombstone, 1.25 meters high and 0.80 meters wide, inscribed in regular script with the text “Tomb of Lord Chen of Liupo, Opening Nation Marquis and Vice Minister of the Song Dynasty.” In front are three levels of tomb terraces. A pair of stone statues, stone horses, and stone sheep are still preserved. Chen Dang (1134–1216), courtesy name Zhengzhong, passed the imperial examination in 1163 during the Longxing era of the Song Dynasty. He held various official positions including Right Ministry Langzhong and Palace Censor, and was posthumously honored as the Qingyuan Commandery Marquis in the early Jiading era, with the posthumous title “Opening Nation Marquis.” The Puping Chen Family Tomb was designated as a Fujian Provincial Cultural Heritage Site in 2013.

Located in the western part of the county, it is 15 kilometers from the county seat and situated along the upper reaches of the Mulan River. Covering an area of 110 square kilometers, it has a population of 77,000. The Xianyou–Yongtai Highway runs through the entire town. The town administers two neighborhood committees—Dufeng and Tanbian—and seventeen village committees: Dongfeng, Lishan, Shengshan, Xiazhou, Zhongfeng, Houpu, Xiangxi, Yangban, Zhongyue, Maoshan, Yunshui, Pingshan, Jianshan, Xiaxi, Puwei, Yunju, and Kuzhu.
