Fengting Linshan Palace
Fengting Linshan Palace is a cultural heritage site protected at the provincial level in Fujian Province.
Fengting Linshan Palace, also known as Baohetang and commonly referred to as the Great Palace, is located in Xiujiao Natural Village, Linshan Village, Fengting Town, Xianyou County. It was first built during the Song Dynasty, rebuilt in the first year of the Xuantong reign of the Qing Dynasty (1909), and renovated again in 1981. Facing south, it has a total width of 32.4 meters and a depth of 26.6 meters, covering an area of 861.8 square meters. It is a single-courtyard corridor-style building, with structures arranged along a central axis including the front hall, courtyard, side corridors on both sides, the main hall, and the side halls of Baogong Hall and Chongde Hall. The front hall features three bays in width and three columns in depth; the main hall has three bays in width and four columns in depth, with a single-eave hip-and-gable roof and a wooden frame structure using both post-and-lintel and through-tenon techniques. In front of the main gate stand a pair of dragon pillars and a pair of stone lions carved from bluish-green stone. The dragon pillars are 2.73 meters tall with a circumference of 1.75 meters; the stone lions and base are 1.32 meters high and 1.73 meters wide. Both the dragon pillars and the stone lions were carved by Wang Chengzeng, a renowned stonemason from Hui’an County during the Qing Dynasty. The halls feature 19 large murals painted in the first year of the Xuantong reign by Lin Zhaoqi, a famous painter of the Qing Dynasty. The four plaques inside the halls — “Linshan Palace,” “Ancient Cave of Linshan,” “Linshan Academy,” and “Ten Thousand Households’ Living Buddha” — were all inscribed by Zhang Qin, a calligrapher and Jinshi scholar from Putian during the Qing Dynasty. Baohetang is a typical representative of local temples and holds certain research value. Fengting Linshan Palace was designated as a Fujian Provincial Cultural Heritage Site in 2009.
