Xienshuiyang

Xienshuiyang, though not as famous as Baishuiyang, offers a much larger area for visitors to play and enjoy the water. In summer, after splashing around in the stream at Xienshuiyang, you can go for a hike to nearby ancient villages, the Dust-Free Pagoda, and Jiuzuo Temple, which is said to be the birthplace of the Southern Shaolin Temple in Putian.

The sight of this stream of water was truly thrilling. For those who can’t swim—landlubbers like me—this was an exciting way to get close to the stream.

The stream water is flowing, so it remains very clear. Plus, being relatively remote and not yet fully developed, there is no entrance fee for now, nor much commercialization. It feels very natural.

For friends who didn’t get enough of splashing around in the rain as kids, this is the perfect place to relive that childhood joy of playing in the water. If there are many people, you can buy a water gun or a ladle and have a little water festival—it’s quite fun.

1. Jiuzuo Temple

Jiuzuo Temple was built in the early Tang Dynasty, initiated by Zen Master Zhengjue (also known as Zhiguang), and has a history of over 1,100 years. It is said to be the birthplace of the Southern Shaolin Temple.

2. Dust-Free Pagoda

The Dust-Free Pagoda was built in the sixth year of the Xiantong era of the Tang Dynasty (865 AD) by Zen Master Zhengjue. It served as the site for monks’ cremation and spiritual transformation throughout the ages. The pagoda is an octagonal, three-story hollow stone structure, standing 14.22 meters tall with a diameter of 6.45 meters.

3. Waterfront Walking Street

The most fun spot at Xienshuiyang, where you can play and splash around in the water during summer. Overall, it’s no less enjoyable than Baishuiyang in Ningde.

4. Old Putian Residential Houses

Around Xienshuiyang, you can see many old local residences in Putian, which are quite a sight.
