Xienshuiyang Water Conservancy Scenic Area

Location: Upper reaches of the Jiuxian Stream, at the border between Xianyou County and Dehua County, Putian City, Fujian Province

Introduction:

Xienshuiyang is a flat-bedrock stream channel comparable to Baishuixiang, but more than four times larger in size. Geological surveys have preliminarily confirmed it to be a rare shallow-water plaza in the world, formed by a single expanse of smooth brown bedrock. Stretching 615 meters along the stream, it resembles a natural water-based pedestrian street, with a developable area exceeding 150,000 square meters—truly a spectacular water wonder in central Fujian. The stone surface is as smooth as a whetstone, free of gravel; the streambed is flat, the current gentle, and the water depth remains within half a meter, flowing with a pristine natural beauty. Clusters of cattails dot the stream, the banks are low, and in the distance, layered mountains rise, their bases framed by pine and cypress trees. With pine and bamboo scattered across the mountaintops and valleys, and the landscape embraced by hills and waters, the environment is serene and tranquil—truly “mountains like emerald hairpins, waters like sapphire ribbons.” The shimmering ripples are astonishing, making it a heavenly earthly scene, hence the name “Xienshuiyang” (Fairy Water Plain).

Visitors can ride bicycles or even drive cars on the plain, and a variety of water sports can be enjoyed here, such as water dragon dancing, water tug-of-war, group calisthenics performances, and 100-meter races. There is also a 3.2-kilometer-long rafting course. Tourists can enter the Immortal Valley Scenic Area from the upper square of Xienshuiyang to explore its mysteries, or wade from the upper square to the lower square, then continue downstream along the Xienshui Stream by rubber raft, eventually reaching the high-mountain plain lake of Xiwai Reservoir for leisure and fishing. Drifting leisurely on the plain clears the mind and spirit; boarding a raft and paddling offers a unique experience. Watch as the stream and mountains shift by, the raft floating above the sky and clouds drifting on the water. Along the banks, a couple of cattle graze peacefully, while egrets occasionally flutter past, as if a traditional Chinese painting is slowly unfurling—breathtakingly beautiful.
