Former Site of the Shanggong Branch of the CPC

The former site of the Shanggong Branch of the CPC is a cultural relic protection unit and a patriotic education base in Xianyou.

The former site of the Shanggong Branch of the CPC is located in Xingshan Village, Youyang Town, Xianyou County, Fujian Province. In mid-April of the 16th year of the Republic of China (1927), Chen Guozhu

(Liao Hua), established the first Party branch in Xianyou County — the Shanggong Branch of the CPC — at Xingshan Academy in Shanggong. This academy is a Qing Dynasty structure built with earth and wood, situated at the top of Xingshan Mountain. In November 1989, it was listed as a county-level cultural relic protection unit.

In Xingshan Village, Youyang Town, Xianyou County, Fujian Province, there stands an ancient and elegant academy — Xingshan Academy. Originally built in the early Ming Dynasty to commemorate the Southern Song patriots Wen Tianxiang and Yue Fei, the academy has a long history and is considered the cradle of education in the Xinghua region. It is the earliest academy established in the mountainous northern part of Putian and is also one of the four major academies in the city. Furthermore, it is a renowned revolutionary site in central Fujian. Having endured multiple disasters and instances of destruction over the years, the academy has been restored several times by later generations and still retains its good condition at the foot of Xingjiao Mountain. It is under various key protections by the local government and Party committee, and has been designated as a patriotic education base.

The First Branch of the CPC in Xianyou County was established in April 1927 inside Xingshan Academy as the “Shanggong Branch of the CPC.”

In 1990, it was designated by the People’s Government of Xianyou County as a “Modern Revolutionary Cultural Relic Protection Unit①.”

In 2006, it was named by the Xianyou County Committee and People’s Government as one of the “First Batch of Patriotic Education Bases in Xianyou County②.”

In 2006, it was named by the Xianyou County Committee and People’s Government as a “Xianyou County Revolutionary Tradition Education Base”②.

In 2007, the Revolutionary Struggle Memorial Hall of the Shanggong Branch of the CPC was established as a county-level modern revolutionary cultural relic protection unit in Xianyou①.

On September 18, 2010, the former site of the Shanggong Branch of the CPC was designated by the Party History Research Office of the Fujian Provincial Committee as a “Second Batch of Provincial Party History Education Bases”②.
