Dongmen Jiecha Temple

Dongmen Jiecha Temple is a cultural heritage site protected at the provincial level in Fujian Province.

Dongmen Jiecha Temple is located in Miaoli Alley, Dongmen Street, Xianyou County, and dates back to the Qing Dynasty.

Description: Also known as Xuandu Jiecha, it enshrines the Jiecha Dignity King, with Mazu and the Monkey King as secondary deities. Originally built during the Ming Dynasty, it was reconstructed in the first year of the Xianfeng reign of the Qing Dynasty (1851). The temple faces northwest and is situated southeast, with a total width of 16 meters and a depth of 42.3 meters, covering a total area of 676.8 square meters. Along the central axis are, in sequence, a brick courtyard, the front hall, a patio, side corridors on the left and right, and the main hall. The front hall is five bays wide and five rafters deep; the main hall is three bays wide and eleven rafters deep, with a post-and-lintel wooden structure in the central bay and a gable-and-hip roof. Carved patterns on the dougong brackets, beams, as well as the painted and gilded caisson ceilings and spandrels, are intricately decorated.

Protected area: An additional 20 meters outward from all sides of the building.

In 2018, Dongmen Jiecha Temple was designated as part of the ninth batch of provincial-level cultural heritage sites by the People’s Government of Fujian Province.
