Dongshi Tulou

Dongshi Tulou is a cultural heritage site protected at the provincial level in Fujian Province.

Dongshi Tulou is located in Dongshi Village, Yuanzhuang Town, Xianyou County, dating back to the Qing Dynasty.

Description: A square-shaped earthen building, facing south with a north orientation, featuring a mixed post-and-lintel and mortise-and-tenon wooden frame structure and a flush-gable roof. It measures 21 meters in length and 20.8 meters in width, covering an area of 437 square meters. The building has three stories, with a central courtyard. The first floor has 8 rooms, the second floor has 10 rooms, and the third floor is used as a hall without rooms. The tulou has one door each on the eastern and southern sides. The walls are constructed from rammed earth, with the ground floor walls being 1.24 meters thick and the second and third floor walls 0.9 meters thick. There are no windows on the first floor, 8 windows on the second floor, and 20 windows on the third floor. All doors and windows are carved from bluestone, making them both sturdy and aesthetically pleasing. Small gun loops are placed beside the windows, with a total of 78 gun loops throughout the building.

Protected area: To the east up to the boundary of Zheng Ruibao’s residence, to the west up to the road boundary, to the south up to the exterior wall of adjacent houses, and to the north up to the boundary of Zheng Farong’s residence.

In 2018, Dongshi Tulou was designated as part of the ninth batch of provincial-level cultural heritage sites by the People's Government of Fujian Province.

Dongshi Village: Dongshi Village is located 5.7 kilometers northwest of the Yuanzhuang Town government seat. The village committee is based in Zhangxia. The settlement is shaped like a plum blossom and consists of natural villages including Jiucuo, Zhongcuo, Dingcuo, Zhengkeng, Chihou, Chihou, Xincuo, Chitouzai, Zhangxia, Zaiwei, Laoshi, Guoxi, Ducheng, Dadu, Wukeng, Xikeng, Dongmen, Xiacao, and Weicuo.
